If you’ve ever researched a trip to Nassau, you’ve probably seen the exact same recommendations repeated on every single travel blog: visit the Atlantis aquariums, buy a souvenir at the Straw Market, or crowd onto a massive catamaran with 60 strangers for a scripted snorkeling tour. And I hear over and over, disappointed travelers recommending to skip Nassau in favor of other places in the Caribbean. And my response is that you have to get out of downtown or your resort and explore what else Nassau has to offer.
To experience the real spirit of New Providence, you have to break away from the commercial corridors. And the best way to do that is to take control of your own itinerary.

Certainly not my #1 recommendation, but if you have a free day in Nassau and want to get away from the resort life, grab your snorkel gear and check out Clifton Heritage National Park. If you swim about 100 yards off the beach, there’s an 18 ft underwater sculpture of a Bahamian girl that acts as a thriving artificial reef.
